English

Following the Australian Curriculum for English and building on skills developed in Years 7 and 8, students create and deliver  persuasive and informative oral presentations, using imaginative personas.

They develop their analystical writing skills with in-class essays, they engage in a Shakespeare workshop including the study of a variety of contemporary versions of Shakespearean plays, and  they conduct a close study of a range of forms of poetry to produce their own short story.

A detailed novel study and an analysis and evaluation of a range of contemporary social issues  published in multi-modal formats allow students to develop their critical thinking skills and increase their understanding of how meaning is produced in texts.

Througout the course students are encouraged to become independent learners: setting goals, planning carefully, sequencing information, organising materials, managing time, initiating and persisting with tasks, self monitoring and adapting to changes in routine.
